Over recent months, many communities across Australia have been dealing with the impacts of floods, fires, cyclones and other natural disasters. More recently, fuel supply pressures and the possibility of further disruption are also affecting how services can operate in different places.

We know that for some sites this has meant disrupted access, uncertainty around fuel availability, and ongoing flow-on effects from recent events. What delivery looks like right now differs from place to place, and we recognise that local responses need to reflect what is happening on the ground.

We also understand that sites may be receiving advice or direction from their own organisations, as well as from state and federal governments, as issues around fuel supply and access continue to unfold. This guidance will be important in shaping local decisions, and we encourage sites to take it into account alongside your own knowledge of local conditions.

Sites already looking ahead

We’re aware that some sites are making changes to how delivery occurs or are actively thinking through how best to adapt to their circumstances. This may include changes to the frequency or mode of home visits, adjustments to group gatherings, or exploring online options where these are appropriate and workable.

These approaches reflect thoughtful, site-led responses to local challenges. The HIPPY National Office supports these local adaptations. Flexibility is important at the moment, and there is no expectation that sites continue with business as usual where conditions don’t allow for it. We know and understand HIPPY Providers may need to adapt delivery based on organisational direction and community contexts, and to prioritise safe, appropriate delivery that continues to support families and communities.

Staying connected and learning from your experiences

Please keep your Site Advisor informed about any adaptations you are making. Staying in touch helps Site Advisors understand what you are dealing with locally and where support may be helpful.

We also welcome hearing directly from you about the challenges you are facing, the adjustments you are making, and where things may feel complex or uncertain. Sharing these insights helps the National Office respond in a way that is informed by local realities and ensures that we are offering the right support as conditions continue to change.
