Why is this required?

HIPPY Australia and all site providers must comply with the conditions of the Department of Social Services (DSS) funding agreement.

Under these requirements, any person who has contact with children or vulnerable people, including parents and carers, as part of HIPPY program delivery must hold a valid National Police Check (NPC) and Working With Children Check (WWCC), or the relevant state or territory equivalent.

We recognise the challenges

We understand this requirement can be difficult for sites when:

• Community organisations cannot confirm attendees in advance
• Guest speakers change at short notice
• Screening requirements create additional administration and costs
• Sites are operating in small or remote communities

Can this requirement be changed?

No, the requirement is a condition of the DSS funding agreement and is reflected in the HIPPY Sublicence and Funding Agreement. HIPPY Australia is therefore unable to remove or alter these screening requirements.

Are any changes planned?

A national review of child safeguarding arrangements is currently underway. HIPPY Australia is monitoring developments and will align with any future changes where required. There are currently no changes to screening or risk mitigation requirements. Site providers will be advised if any updates are made to guest speaker or subcontractor requirements.
